KARACHI, May 9: The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has asked automobile assemblers to submit three separate lists for import and procurement of parts and components under the newly finalised Tariff Based System (TBS) in place of deletion programme.

The board has asked the assemblers to provide lists containing information like 1) parts/ components intended to be imported under the exemption notification at lower concessionary rate of duty; 2) parts/components, if any, intended to be imported at higher concessionary rate of duty; and 3) parts/components, if any, intended to be imported at statuary rates less than 35 per cent.

The EDB, through a letter issued to 69 assemblers of cars, bikes, LCVs, tractors, rickshaw, etc., in the first week of this month, said the board would verify the admissibility of benefits of the exemption notification to the parts/components identified as aforesaid by the manufacturers/assemblers. Clearance of kits will be affected, according to the lists duly verified by the EDB, as soon as the TBS is approved.

The manufacturers (original equipment manufacturers) will have to submit a list of parts/ components, procured locally (through vendors or in house) for enabling the EDB to monitor the procurement of all parts.
