Oil jumps

LONDON, May 9: World oil prices rebounded strongly on Tuesday after Washington dismissed a letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proposing ways to resolve the nuclear energy crisis.

In London, Brent North Sea crude for June delivery leapt $1.14 to $71.35 per barrel in electronic trade.

New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in June, jumped $1.18 to $70.95 per barrel in pit deals.

Crude futures pushed higher after the White House said Tuesday that the US would not be making a formal response to the letter.—AFP
