KARACHI, May 8: The participants of “Save Karachi conference” have resolved that they would make every possible struggle with patriotic parties to restore peace and tranquility in the city.

The conference, presided over by Prof Ghafoor Ahmad, deputy chief of Jamaat-i-Islami and a central leader of MMA, was originally planned at the Beach Luxury Hotel on Monday by Islami Jamiat Talaba but due to alleged pressure from the government, was held at the Karachi Press Club.

A joint declaration adopted on the occasion demanded immediate arrest of all those responsible for Nishtar Park tragedy. The declaration also demanded arrest of killers of students and people.

Holding the governor and the home minister responsible for destroying the peace of the city, the conference called for their dismissal.

The conference maintained that the provincial government had failed to maintain law and order in Karachi. It condemned the Nishtar Park tragedy and murder of student Akmal Shirazi and Ferhan Asif.

Prof Ghafoor Ahmad condemned the Sindh government for not allowing the IJT to hold their conference at the hotel and said “This proves that the MQM was responsible for killings in Karachi.”

Prof Ghafoor said when General Musharraf came to power, he made a commitment to restore peace and tranquility in Karahci, but today there was worst lawlessness. He assured that the IJT which had always given sacrifices for the solidarity of the country would emerge victorious and enemies of Pakistan would suffer.

Allama Hasan Turabi of Tehreek-i-Islami said there were surely difficulties in the path of truth and righteousness as our faith called for tolerance and restraint. He said guns and ministries could not block the path of righteousness.

Qazi Ahmad Noorani of JUP regretted that the perpetrators of Nishtar Park have not been arrested. He said the government itself was responsible for it.

Maulana Abdul Karim Abid of the JUI-F said in the presence of present rulers, the country’s future was at stake, so there was a need not only to save Karachi but to the entire country.
