Champions outclass Yorkshire

LONDON, May 7: Jason Gillespie turned in a miserly spell for Yorkshire but it was not enough to prevent defending champions Sussex winning by five wickets on the final day of their County Championship match at Headingley on Saturday.

Australia fast bowler Gillespie finished with second innings figures of one for 27 off 14 overs but Sussex, who needed 54 more runs with five wickets standing when play resumed to reach their victory target of 193, got home on the final day of four thanks to Matt Prior's 55 not out.

Elsewhere in the First Division Warwickshire moved to within a point of leaders Lancashire after a 60-run win over reigning champions Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

David Alleyne followed up his first innings 57 with his maiden first-class hundred but his unbeaten 109 not out produced just personal satisfaction.
