Trio held in custody

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, May 7: Three players of the Pakistan ‘A’ squad were kept in custody by Abu Dhabi police before the EurAsia Cricket Series final on Friday for over speeding, said team manager Shafiq Ahmed.

He was talking to Dawn after the team’s arrival from Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

According to media reports, Misbahul Haq, Zulqarnain Haider and Taufiq Umar had been apprehended by the police.

Shafiq said the players along with a friend, who was driving the car, were going to Dubai on Thursday — a day before the final — when the police stopped their car for over speeding.

“The players were also detained because they could not prove their identities and when I presented their documents, the police set them free,” he said.

Shafiq however said the friend was not released by the police.
