KARACHI: Boy killed, body set on fire

KARACHI, May 7: A 13-year-old boy was killed by unknown persons in the limits of Pirabad police station late on Saturday night. Police said that some unidentified men barged into a house in Muslimabad and strangulated Asif to death. Later, they set his body on fire after wrapping it into bedsheet.

Police sent the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. Quoting the statement of family, police said that six months back, a suspect Siddiq had kidnapped the sister of Asif. The matter was referred to “Jirgah” which decided that Siddiq have to give daughter in marriage to Asif. The decision was not acceptable to Siddiq whose involvement was being suspected behind Arif’s murder, police said. An FIR was lodged in which Siddiq his wife and two brothers had been nominated, police added.

In Quaidabad, a man was killed and his associate wounded in celebratory firing at a marriage ceremony.

Police said that a musical programme was being held at the wedding reception of Shahzeb, son of a local councillor Malick Iqbal.

During the receptions some friends of the groom resorted to celebratory firing, a bullet struck sound technician Shahid Mehmood, 25 and wounded his associate Sirajuddin.

Police said that Shahid died before he could be taken to the hospital. His associate was taken to the JPMC for treatment. An FIR was lodged on the complaint of Sirajuddin nominating the groom and his father.

ACCIDENT: A woman died in a hit-and-run accident near Steel Mills on the National Highway.

Police said that the body was run over by several vehicles. After a few hours, someone informed the police about the body lying on the highway. Subsequently, police shifted the body to the JPMC for legal formalities.

DROWNED: A young man drowned in the pond of Safari Park on Sunday.

Police said that Sharafat Ali, 25, drowned in the pond of Safari Park. He apparently had gone for a dip in the pond but drowned. The victim used to work at a nearby tyre repair shop at University Road and resided in New Karachi, police said.
