KARACHI: Action on toxic waste dumping ordered


KARACHI, May 7: Sindh Minister for Industries, Mohammad Adil Siddiqui has ordered action against culprits of dumping of toxic waste at a place in Site area which has claimed life of a child and affected several others.

In his statement received here from London on Sunday, the minister directed the managing director of Site Limited to immediately cancel the allotment order of the plots on which the toxic industrial waste was found dumped.

He also ordered immediate survey of all open plots in Site area, and said notices be served to the owners of these plots advising them to start construction within three months to avert cancellation of their allotment.

Compensation: The Pakistan Labour Party has demanded compensation for the victims of SITE area, where a child died and others suffered burn wounds due to dumping of industrial chemical effluent.To express sympathy with innocent children, the Pakistan Labour Party staged a demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club on Sunday. The leaders stressed to implement the environmental rules and guidelines to save the lives of Karachittes. They also demanded immediate compensation of Rs1 million and Rs0.5 million to the heirs of deceased and injured children, respectively.

PLP leaders said that illegal dumping grounds of poisonous wastage all over the city should be eliminated.

They said the government was razing the residential areas of poor workers and old villages while the industrialists were free to use government land even for dumping their dangerous industrial wastes.—APP/PPI
