8 members of a family die in accident

HYDERABAD, May 6: Eight people were killed and ten others injured in a head-on collision between a van and a truck on the Super Highway near Luni Kot bridge on Saturday morning.

The highway coming towards Hyderabad is under construction and for that reason the road for Karachi is being used for traffic.

The National Highway Authority is carrying out work in piecemeal for the past several months and one-way traffic has become a sources of trouble for drivers.

Those died in the accident belonged to one family which was returning from Karachi in van (C-4614) when it collided with the truck.

The Motorway police rushed to the spot to attend the injured and removed them to the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro.

The deceased were identified as Anwari, 60, wife of Jamshed Khanzada, her adopted son Dr Altaf Khanzada, 35, Junaid Khanzada, 32, son of Jamshed, his 10-year-old brother, Waqas, Quratul Ain, 28, wife of Junaid and his eight-month-old daughter Nadia, Mehwish and Erum, both sisters of Junaid.

The injured are: Farah, Saima, Fahad and Farrukh (children of Jamshed Khanzada), Sarwar, Musarat and Satwat (sisters of Dr Altaf), Ahmed Ali and Imran (cousins of Junaid) and van driver Sherzada, a resident of Swat.

They were admitted to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital.

The family was resident of Latifabad-9.

The bodies were brought to Khurshid town of Edhi welfare centre for bath before they were shifted to Latifabad.
