India may host 2011 World Cup final

NEW DELHI, May 6: India may get to host the grand finale of 2011 cricket World Cup, a top Indian cricket board official said. BCCI's key Marketing Committee Member I.S. Bindra said going by rotation, India should get to host the final of the mega event.

“There is a rotation policy in place. India hosted the final in 1987 while the 1996 final was played in Pakistan. Going by the same principle, India should host the final,” Bindra told reporters.

“Anyway, we don't want any public debate on the venue for the final. Everything will be discussed when all the four boards sit down together,” the former BCCI chief said.

Meanwhile, the BCCI president Sharad Pawar says India was yet to decide on its participation in inaugural Twenty20 Cricket World Championship in South Africa next year.

“We will take it up in the board's Working Committee which will decide on this.”

The resolution referred to by Pawar allows for an annual Twenty20 World Championship under aegis of the ICC.

Pawar also clarified that Pakistan Cricket Board had informed BCCI of its inability to play in a tri-series at Abu Dhabi in September.

“The dates were not suitable to them because it came immediately after their England tour,” he said. “But we will have a tri-series in Abu Dhabi, the dates will be different though.”—Agencies
