Tight handicap drawn for today’s races
KARACHI, May 6: The punters will have to be careful in choosing and picking their favourite horses as a tight handicap has been drawn for the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Four to five horses with equal chance are in contention for the honours in almost all the six races of the programme which begins at 2.30pm.
The race goers will have to follow the trend in the ring before trying their luck.
However, in all fairness, four-year-old chestnut colt, Johnnie Walker, having won two races on trot last month starts as our days’ best and poised to make it three in a row should he sprint to victory.
He is drawn in a field of 15 aspirants in the fifth race to be run over sprinting distance of five furlongs. It is a division 1 race restricted for Pakistani thoroughbred horses in class V11.
Chestnut The Big Show is also expected to put up a good show provided he is tried by the connections. Reyan King and filly Miss Millee should settle for the places.
Arab King is fancied to make amends by grabbing the opener. He finished third last Sunday with Raees Ahmed astride.
He should be chased by Lucky View and Royal Beauty. Desperado, a stable-mate of Arab King, can upset the applecart.
Owned and trained by M. Tufail, Lovely Concept, should pick up spoils in the second. He won the five furlongs previous outing on April 2 by seven lengths.
Also in contention are Tun Baba Tun and Raka Poshi whereas Dunhill Desire may pull off an upset.
Three-year-old bay filly, Annaba, should improve upon her performance by galloping to victory in the third race.
After consistent failures, she secured third place on April 23.
However, she will have to overcome Azam The Great, Fascinate and Jan-e-Mun.
The latter, a three-year-old filly from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, has the guts to topple the fancy horse.
Syed Ismail Shah’s filly, Voo Doo Doll, look certain to clinch the fourth race. Chestnut colt, Terrorist, belonging to the same connections also had equal chance and can upset all calculations.
Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s mare, Smiling Face, should pick up the concluding event to maintain her winning run.
Kicking King will pose serious challenge.
