NEW DELHI, May 6: Kashmir’s All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) is to set up a core group of negotiators, including economists, legal advisers specialising in human rights issues and political leaders, to hold future talks with the Indian government, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said on Friday.

He told a Friday congregation in Srinagar that his talks at the head of an APHC delegation with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday were part of a stepped up quest involving Pakistan, India and Kashmiri representatives to find a durable solution to the Kashmir dispute.

“We quite frankly put up our case that human rights violations in Kashmir were persisting despite official promises and assertions that these would go away,” he said.

Torture at will, frequent and often unreported killings and prolonged incarceration on cooked up charges were discussed as urgent matters to be resolved with Dr Singh.

There was no clear indication if APHC would participate in a roundtable conference on Kashmir called by the Indian prime minister in Srinagar on May 25.

JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who left APHC some time ago, said he was quite sure that the proposed roundtable meeting would not serve any purpose to resolve the Kashmir dispute. He would not attend the meeting.
