KARACHI: Magistrate summoned in Gichki death probe

KARACHI, May 6: Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery of the Sindh High Court, who is holding an inquiry into the custodial death of Balochistan National Party activist, Mohammad Hasan Gichki, on Saturday summoned the judicial magistrate in whose presence the autopsy of Hasan was conducted.

The application was filed by Aamir Mansoob Qureshi, counsel of jail officials, praying the court to call judicial magistrate Muqtadar Ali Khan for recording evidence in whose presence the post mortem of Hasan was conducted.

He contended that the JM mentioned in his findings that there were no marks of violence on the body of Hasan. He also requested the court to call additional district and session judge south and west Karachi who earlier conducted inquiry of the matter.

Earlier, Justice Zawar Hussain Jaffery, complainant's counsel Syed Ghulam Shah and Abdul Wahad Baloch and counsel of jail officials M. Ilyas Khan, Aamir Mansoob Qureshi and Mohammad Farooq visited Karachi central jail, district jail Malir.

The statements of three jail personnel and 13 inmates in jail were recorded.

The prisoners denied that Hasan ever complained them about any maltreatment by jail officials. The medical report of Dr. Ghulam Ali and Dr. Shankar Lal was also presented before tribunal. The matter has been fixed for May 13.—PPI
