KARACHI: City nazim clarifies goth issue

KARACHI, May 6: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the city government is not directly involved in the operation to remove encroachments in some part of Sikandar Goth, raised on the land of Al-Mashriq Cooperative Housing Society.

“The city government is being unnecessarily implicated in this issue. In fact, it is not directly linked to this operation,” he said in a statement here on Saturday.

Clarifying the matter, the city nazim said that some shops and houses in the village had been raised illegally on the Society's land and the party had lodged a case in this regard with the Sindh High Court.

The high court gave its verdict in favour of the Society and the district court, Malir, on the directives of the high court, appointed a Nazir whereas the city government and police were directed to provide him with necessary technical and administrative support, including the machinery to remove encroachments.

“Hence, the operation was carried out under the supervision of the Nazir appointed by the court,” he said, adding that some political parties, by issuing uncalled for statements tried to implicate the city government in the action, taken purely on court order.

The city nazim charged that the parties which were left with nothing to give to people were trying to mislead and provoke people in order to fulfil their own nefarious designs.—PPI/APP
