PESHAWAR, May 6: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has seized an illegal international mini-gateway and arrested on person from his office here on Saturday.
The PTA, with the help of crime circle of the Federal Investigation Agency, raided a Qixsol office, apparently dealing in the software development, at the 8th floor of State Life Building on The Mall and arrested company’s owner Mohammad Bilal, said PTA regional director Mohammad Nisar Awan.
Talking to Dawn, Mr Awan said that the authority had been monitoring voice over internet (VOI) at the Qixsol office for the last few weeks and finally raided the office and apprehended Bilal ‘red-handed’.
“The system was switched on when the PTA and FIA raided,” the official said, adding that during a one-hour strict watch, they observed that Qixsol company caused loss of Rs10,000 to the national exchequer.
The company was providing illegal international dialling facility to its clients under the garb of software development company, the PTA regional chief said.
“Certainly, the accused had caused millions of rupees loss to the government and we will assess the exact losses caused by the company since its establishment in 2004, after checking the company’s record,” Mr Awan added.
The FIA seized two quantum switches, 12 ‘telolar’ sets and 14 computers from the office.
An FIA official said that the agency would register a case against the accused.
Mohammad Bilal, however, claimed that he was running his legal company dealing in the software development. He said that he had got license from Pakistan Software Export Board and had not done anything illegal.
