KARACHI: Electricity failures continue

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 6: People complained about frequent power failures in various localities on Saturday while the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation claimed normal power supply across the city.

Spokesman for the power utility said that the KESC did not resort to loadshedding in any locality and it had met the demand of power.

He said that the demand did not exceed the generation capacity and the power supply situation remained normal on Saturday.

He said that localised faults developed in some areas. However, he said that KESC engineers and staff rectified the faults and restored power supply to all such areas.

Although the power supply situation was better in general as compared to the last couple of days, residents in some areas still complained about intermittent power failures.

An irate resident from Garden East said that the power supply was discontinued five to six times every night and each spell was not less than half an hour and there was no one in the KESC to give the reason of frequent interruption in power supply.

He said that the power went off for two hours in the daytime and it again went off in the evening in the localities of Edward Street, Manakjee Street and Vines Street in Garden East. “I have attempted many times to dial the number of KESC complaint cell 9215200 but the number remained busy. I went myself to lodge the complaint where the KESC staff replied that since Wapda had not been supplying power people would have to suffer without electricity.”

An angry citizen from Block-12, in Federal B Area said that the KESC claimed that there was no power loadshedding but his locality experienced three-hour power shutdowns for the past two consecutive nights.

He asked if the localised fault developed every night in his locality. The KESC resorted to loadshedding in localities of middle class population and not in the posh localities where all the KESC hierarchy lived, he remarked.
