ISLAMABAD, May 4: Pakistani and Swiss intelligence agencies will jointly investigate the Swiss visa scam to smash the human smuggling network, it is learnt through official sources on Thursday.
A source in the Federal Investigation Agency said two Swiss officials had already visited Pakistan and shared information with local intelligence agencies, including the FIA.
He said another team of Swiss investigators was likely to arrive in Pakistan soon to jointly investigate the scam and unmask those involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, a top FIA official said the agency had sought assistance of Interpol and added that the red notice (arrest warrant) of another main character in the scam, Maj (retd) Ajmal, had been issued. He said besides main accused Ashir Francis three travel agents had also been picked up and interrogated.
“They have confessed that they are involved in the scam,” he pointed out.
Answering a question about the involvement of any Swiss national in the case, the official said no such evidence had been found so far.
Accused Ajmal, who is believed to have escaped aboard, recently issued a press statement claiming he was innocent.
The FIA official said Ajmal, who had served as commercial attaché, had mentioned names of some employees of the embassy and the FIA was working on it.
