MARDAN, May 4: The Mardan Ulassi Jirga and the Islamic Lawyers’ Movement have opposed shifting of an electronic data processing centre of the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation from the city.

Jirga organiser Iqbal Hoti and Islamic Lawyers’ Movement president Iqbal Khan, in a statement, expressed concern over the PTCL’s decision to shift the EDP centre, saying that the move would be an injustice with the people of the district.

They said Mardan had been ignored despite being the second largest district of the province.

They said the EDP centre was established in 1997 and bills were sent from it to people of Mardan, Dir, Timergara, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera and Swat.

They said closure of the centre would create problems for more than 50,000 customers.

They demanded that instead of shifting the EDP centre, a computerised billing centre should be established in Mardan.
