KARACHI: 50kg explosives used by terrorists so far: Ibad
KARACHI, May 4: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that the investigation into Nishtar Park bomb blast is moving ahead swiftly and, besides general public, the foreign diplomats based in Karachi would also be apprised of its outcome.
Speaking at a reception hosted by him in honour of foreign envoys at the Governor’s House on Wednesday night, he said that while terrorists had changed their dynamics, the government had also improved its combating strategy.
“Investigation reports suggest that so far 50kg explosive material has been used to carry out bomb blasts in different incidents in the city. The law-enforcement agencies have also seized over 3,000kg explosive material, foiling terrorists’ nefarious designs,” the governor said.
A number of terrorists have been arrested, and this is the result of the preventive measures that are a part of the effective strategy adopted for maintaining peace.
Governor Ibad said that the isolated incident of Nishtar Park bomb blast did not reflect the otherwise peaceful situation prevailing across Karachi, and the rest of the country.
“Under the dynamic leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the country is making big strides on the path of development and progress,” he observed, and added that having a huge consumer base, Pakistan could prove to be a goldmine for investors.
Dr Ibad also briefed the diplomats about the ongoing mega projects in Karachi and said that they were aimed at making it a modern and developed city of the world.
He said that for the first time in the country’s history, the government was about to complete its tenure and this had given stability to its democratic institutions. “Another positive aspect of the present set-up is that the local governments have also begun their second tenure.”
The governor said that Pakistan maintained very congenial relations with all countries. In fact, economic relations with all countries were further strengthening with every passing day, he added.—PPI
