LAHORE, May 2: The Pakistan Cricket Board Women’s Wing chairperson Mira Phailbus claimed on Tuesday she was satisfied with the performance of the women team despite the fact that it fared poorly and failed to win a match.
Addressing a press conference the chairperson Phailbus also admitted that they failed to take disciplinary action against Kiran Baloch after she refused to play in a side match in Delhi last month and returned home. “We decided against any action because the Women Wing did not want to spoil the career of a talented player,” she added.
She said though the player had not been cooperating with the Wing, it would give her more time to change her attitude.
Women Wing chairperson said no contact could be made with any other women group to resolve issues pointed out by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports.
The wing had appointed 10 regional representatives to form district women cricket associations. The representatives will work on honorary basis.
They are: Ms Shaheen Atiqur Rehman (Lahore), Ms Abida Fayyaz (Faisalabad), Ms Tabassum Naseer (Sialkot), Ms Shahnaz Sohail (Karachi), Ms Nighat Raja (Rawalpindi), Ms Suriya Imtiaz (Islamabad), Ms Rashida Ghaznavi (Peshawar), Ms Kalsoom Rashid (Quetta), Ms Ayesha Pervaiz (Hyderabad) and Ms Shami Sultan (Multan).
The representatives were selected on the recommendations of the PCB's Regional Development Officers , she said.
The 3rd national championship will be held at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, in March 2007.
The first national schools championship will also be held before the national championship.
A talent hunt programme will be launched from May 10 to 17 in nine regions including Rawalpindi (May 10), Peshawar (May 12), Hyderabad (May 11), Karachi (May 12), Quetta (May 13), Lahore (May 15), Multan (May 15), Sialkot (May 16) and Faisalabad (May 17).
