Plan to check drug trafficking soon

ISLAMABAD, May 2: Federal minister for narcotics control Ghous Bux Maher has said the government is preparing a new master plan to control drug trafficking from Pakistan’s boarder. Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on “Law-enforcement aspects of drug control master plan” organised jointly be the ministry of narcotics control and the United Nations Organization for Drug Control here on Tuesday, he said the new master plan would be made in the light of experiences, achievements and weaknesses of the past.

The inadequacy of resources was one of the major factor responsible for deficiencies in the implementation of the earlier master plan, he added.

Mr Maher said experts should deliberate and develop a concrete mechanism to control drug trafficking from Pakistan’s boarder.

“I expect the experts to pay special attention to the provision of resources needed for the implementation of the new master plan and to develop an effective framework for implementation and coordination among the law-enforcement agencies,” he said.

He also stressed on the need for special efforts for skill enhancement in all areas of operations by earmarking adequate resources for training facilities in use of equipment and sensitive gadgetry.—Staff Reporter
