KARACHI, May 2: The Sindh Health Minister, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, Tuesday directed all doctors and paramedical staff of public sector hospitals to essentially wear aprons with identity card clearly affixed on them while on duty at the OPD and in wards.
Addressing the EDO from all 23 districts of province at the office of Expanded Project for Immunization (EPI), Karachi, he said the directives should be strictly implemented within a fortnight.
After that, there would be surprise visits of hospitals, and if any doctor or paramedics was found without aprons and identity cards, action would be taken against both them and the concerned medical superintendent.
The Secretary, Health, Dr Naushad Ahmed, Director General, Health, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, EPI Project Director Bashir Ahmed Shaikh and other officials were also present.
HIV CENTRES: The Sindh Health Minister, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, said on Tuesday that an HIV/Aids screening centre under the provincial AIDS Control Programme had been established at Khokhrapar for screening Indian nationals visiting Pakistan.
Such screening centres will also be set up in other parts of the province to detect Aids cases so that the number of patients can be assessed and preventive measures could be taken, he said.
The minister was speaking at a workshop organized by the Sindh Aids Control Programme. The Secretary Health, Dr Naushad Ahmed, members of the provincial assembly, officials of the health department and representatives of UNAIDS attended the workshop.
Qaimkhani said the government would provide the Aids Control Programme with a modern machine worth Rs8 million during the year 2006-07.
He called upon members of the provincial and national assemblies to play their role in educating people about preventive measures against the disease.
