Munir, Shabbir in top 100 of Asian Order of Merit


KARACHI, May 1: Two Pakistani golfers found their place in top 100 club as UBS Asian Order of Merit list announced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday.

According to the details made available here, Mohammad Munir and Shabbir Iqbal were the country's only golfers who have been placed in 100-club for this month's rankings.

Munir with his earning of US$8280 from one event has been placed at 74th spot while Shabbir pocketed US$3130 from two events to secure the 93rd position.

India’s Jeev Milkha Singh, remained on top while Shiv Kapur and Amandeep Johl were the other two Indian among the top-20 golfers in the list released after the US$ 600,000 Maekyung Open.

Jeev, winner of the China Open last month, leads the UBS Order of Merit with winnings of US$ 389,391 but Korea's Charlie Wi has narrowed the gap in second place after picking up a cheque of US$ 12,638 to raise his season's tally to US$ 324,325.

One of the most significant moves on the list was the Maekyung Open winner Suk Jong-ryul of Korea, who came through Asian Tour Qualifying school, who picked his first cheque of the season, and that one of US$ 125,000 rocketed him to 13th place.

Also showing rapid move upwards was runner-up Bryan Saltus, whose career-best finish, took him from 76th to 20th place.

Korea 's Lee Seung Man being hailed the people's champion despite his failure to lift the Maekyung Open, also moved up to 19th.

The 26-year-old Lee led from the opening round before being pipped at the post by compatriot Jong-ryul.
