Rallies held on May Day

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, May 1: Labour organisations, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and journalists’ union here observed May Day by paying tributes to Chicago workers who laid their lives for the rights of the working class.

The Pakistan Workers Federation held a meeting at the Liaquat Bagh, the Muttahida Labour Federation at the district city government office and the Balochistan chapter of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Balochistan Union of Journalists assembled at local press club.

Speakers highlighted the sacrifices of the Chicago workers who were killed on May 1, 1886 for demanding genuine rights for the working class but the oppressors used force to suppress the labour movement.

They said that to the day workers and low-paid employees in government departments and private institutions were being exploited by the wealthy class.

The speakers claimed that unemployment and price-hike were serious problems faced by people and jobless skilled youths.

They stated that anti-worker policy of the government had further increased the miseries of the have-nots.
