Mazari, Jatoi call on Sharif

LAHORE, May 1: Former caretaker prime ministers Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi and Mir Balakh Sher Mazari called on PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif in London on Monday and exchanged views about political situation in the country.

The meeting continued for about 150 minutes.

PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif and former Sindh chief minister Syed Ghous Ali Shah were also present.

Mr Jatoi was made caretaker prime minister when then president Ghulam Ishaq dismissed the first government of Ms Benazir Bhutto in 1990.

However, subsequently, he joined opposition’s campaign against Mr Sharif’s government on the ground that the elections had been rigged. Mr Mazari was appointed caretaker prime minister when the first government of Mian Nawaz Sharif was sacked by then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan in 1993. He stayed in office for about 40 days till the Supreme Court ruled the dismissal illegal and restored the assemblies as well as the government.

Both the former caretaker prime ministers have been leading a quiet life for the past several years.
