River Dancer lifts May Day Cup

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, April 30: Ali Mohammad Al-Shamsi, United Arab Emirates ambassador in Islamabad, won the distinction of being the first ever foreign diplomat to own a horse and win a race in Pakistan when his colt Tuman Khan crowned a grand success in the fourth race during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday before a large crowd.

Trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar Tuman Khan was given a splendid ride by ace jockey Shahid Rehman.

The even-money joint favourite with Para Game, Tuman Khan showed an impressive turn of speed to beat Para Game by three lengths.

The May Day cup was annexed by long shot bay colt River Dancer.

Piloted by jockey Salah-ud-Din (II) the colt owned by Javaid Khalid beat Fajr by three lengths. Favourite Chan finished third with Trace Hit fourth among seven runners.

This was the greatest race of River Dancer's career and he proved he is the rising star among three-year-old colts and fillies.
