Shabbir crowned champion


PESHAWAR, April 30: Defending champion Shabbir Iqbal of Pakistan Navy won the 16th Frontier golf open championship for second consecutive time at PAF Golf Course on Sunday. He retained the title with 12 under par 204 score played over 54 holes.

It was Shabbir’s fourth win in 16 competitions.

Shabbir added 72 to his over night score of 65, 67 to make an aggregated total of 204, 12 under par over 54 holes.

Shabbir was followed by Imdad Hussain 213 (72, 69, 72). He made four birdies and as many bogeys.

Irfan of Rawalpindi carded 215, one under (69, 75, 71), Shahid Javed scored 216 (68, 75, 73) while Akhtar Ali and Javed Inayat of HBL tied at 217, one over par and local boy Arif Khan 218, two over par (68, 76, 74).

In amateur HCP (0-12), Vaqas Ahmed, who also qualified to represent Pakistan in the Pen West Malaysian Open, took the title with his gross score 216 (69, 70, 77).

Adil Jehangir followed him with a one stroke difference (217) and Tariq Mehmood got third prize with 228. Adil also recorded two eagles on hole No. 1 and 3.—APP
