KARACHI:Transporters support govt drive

KARACHI, April 30: A local body of Transporters, Anjuman-i-Ettehad Bus Malikan, Karachi, has hailed the government’s decision to launch a campaign against smoke-emitting vehicles. Leaders of the body including Ashraf Banglori, Chaudhri Mazhar Hussain, Chaudhri Mohammad Riaz and Nazir Banglori in a statement on Sunday also urged the concerned authorities to take stringent action against unscrupulous elements involved in the sale of smuggled diesel and production of spurious oil.

They maintained that it was not only the rickety buses and heavy vehicles along with rickshaws that emitted hazardous fumes causing a severe threat to public health and causing atmospheric pollution, but the easily available low quality and adulterated diesel and oil were also contributing to the menace.

Many of the vehicles had developed faults, which were difficult to be rectified due to use of poor quality diesel and oil, they said.

The transporters said fake units producing spurious oil were operational in Chakiwara, Keamari, Baldia Town, Mohajir Camp, Shershah and Sohrab Goth.

Concerned authorities had been informed of these but action was still awaited, they said.—APP
