KABUL, April 24: Afghan, Pakistan and US troops will conduct a joint military exercise in the volatile Afghan-Pakistan border region, the US military said on Monday, amid concerns over militant infiltration and poor coordination between the two neighbours.

The operation, to be called Inspired Gambit, will be an “air assault exercise” involving a small contingent of Afghan soldiers and an unspecified number of Pakistani troops, US military spokesman Col. Laurent Fox said during a press conference in Kabul.

“We feel that it is important that the only way we will solve the terrorism and insurgency problem is to work closely together with each other,” Mr Fox said.—-AP
