PCB axes Zaheer as manager

LAHORE, April 12: Zaheer Abbas will not be touring UAE as manager of the Pakistan team for back-to-back ODIs against India to be played at Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium on April 18 and 19.

A PCB spokesman said the board had appointed Saleem Altaf, as manager for the two ODIs, taking into account his long association with the constructions of the new stadium in Abu Dhabi.

"Saleem will coordinate matters with Abu Dhabi cricket authorities and BCCI etc to ensure appropriate arrangements for the Pakistan team and successful staging of the two matches.

“The team will be accompanied by coach Bob Woolmer, bowling coach Waqar Younis, Murray Stevenson and Daryl Lifson," a PCB press release said.

Zaheer was appointed manager for the last tour of Sri Lanka but he was not retained for the next assignment.

However, Zaheer is likely to go to UAE as a guest of Abu Dhabi Cricket Association.

The 75 per cent income of the first match will be given to PCB to use it for the relief work of the victims of the Oct 8 earthquake while 25 per cent to India for the same purpose.
