Pakistan, Iran to curb smuggling

QUETTA, April 12: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to curb drugs and human smuggling across their borders and to increase joint patrolling.

The decision was taken at a two-day meeting of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Border Commission which concluded here on Wednesday. Chief Secretary K. B. Rind led the Balochistan team while the Iranian delegation was headed by Mohsin Sadghi.

According to official sources, the meeting discussed border problems and issues including smuggling and recovery of kidnapped people on either side of the border. The commission agreed to accelerate efforts to secure release of kidnapped former minister of Balochistan Faridoon Abadan and other people.

“The process of investigation would be made more effective and speeded up and the accused would be arrested,” the meeting decided. The commission also discussed the issue of seizure of fishing boots during illegal fishing in each other’s waters and took various decision in this regard.
