Woolmer eyes ODI revenge against India

KARACHI, April 8: Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer said on Saturday that his team will b trying best to avenge their One-day International home series loss against India earlier this year, when the two traditional rivals meet in the two-match ODI cricket series in Abu Dhabi later this month.

The English-born former South African coach said Pakistan would go in the upcoming series with full preparation in order to win the series against the in-form Indians who has recently sealed the home ODI series against England.

The two official one-dayers between the two neighbouring countries, organised to raise funds for last year's earthquake victims of the countries will be played on April 18 and 19.

Woolmer, who coached the Pakistan to three-consecutive Test series victories, was of the view that it will not easy for the Pakistanis to beat their rivals saying his team needed to find a method to beat India.

“Pakistan have played terrifically well in the last 12 months but we definitely need to find a method to beat India in the one-day game to restore our confidence,” he pointed out.

However, the coach said that the series victory would give Pakistan confidence that will prove a big boost for the upcoming tour of England.

“It is very important for us to be in best shape before the England tour because you have to be at your best to beat England in England.

“The Abu Dhabi games may be for a cause but they are important and we are taking them seriously,” said Woolmer, who returned a day after the players arrival from Colombo.

Pakistan will tour England for four Tests and five One-day Internationals between late June and early September.

It's after 1992 that Pakistan will be playing more than three Tests in England. —Agencies
