KARACHI, April 5: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has deplored retrenchment of thousands of PTCL employees an ‘unjust act’, and said it was a blatant economic exploitation of working class in the country.
In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, MNAs Mohammad Hussain Mehnati, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Mohammad Laeeq Khan said that on the one hand, the government pledging to bring down unemployment and, on the other, it was depriving poor workers of their livelihood.
They also slammed the policies under which the government was privatizing the country’s profit-making institutions. This practice would further undermine the country’s economy, they added.
Referring to the retrenchment of around 2,300 workers of the Habib Bank recently, they said such moves had created discontent amongst bank workers and uncertainty about their jobs. They observed that the government had failed in fulfilling its commitment of providing jobs to those being retrenched due to the privatization of their organizations.
They also alleged corruption in the process of the Pakistan Steel’s privatization.—PPI
