LARKANA, March 30: Larkana Taluka Nazim Qurban Abbasi has suspended four employees, including the council’s administrative officer, on the charge of financial mismanagement.

The suspended employees are: Rasool Bakhsh Shahani, president of the Municipal Employees union; Umaid Ali Sangi, health superintendent; Aijaz Soomro, assistant in the accounts branch; and Abdul Hameed Pathan, administrative officer.

When contacted, Mr Pathan said then taluka nazim Nazir Ahmad Shaikh had appointed 69 sanitary workers in 1993 on one year contract, which had not been refreshed. However, he said, the staff continued to receive salaries and added that it was due to the fault of the health superintendent.

COUNCIL SESSION: Larkana Taluka Council convener Yasir Junejo presided over a meeting of the council in the lawn on Thursday after tents where the council had temporarily been holding its sessions were uprooted and the furniture removed.

When contacted, the convener told Dawn that the taluka municipal officer and the council officer had not turned up to attend the session of the council.

He said he conducted the proceedings in the lawn in front of the taluka council because the quorum was complete.

Members of the arbitration committee, Nisar Luhar and Jeenad Shaikh, tried to convince Awam Dost Panel members and the convener to discontinue the proceedings but it was not done.

Mohammad Amin Shaikh, Ali Gohar Sangi, Khan Abbasi accused Taluka Nazim Qurban Abbasi of creating mess in the council and issuing threats to members and officers. They alleged that the nazim had exchanged hot words with the convener and had asked the staff concerned to uproot the tents and remove the furniture so that the session could not be held.

The session was adjourned till April 6.
