KARACHI: Ummah urged to protest Israeli excesses

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 30: Eminent Scholar from Palestine Shaikh Mohammad Mehmoud Sayyam, who is former Imam of Al-Quds Mosque, has regretted that Muslim rulers have not taken sufficient measures for liberation of Palestine as majority of them are allies of infidels.

Making a passionate appeal to the Ummah to protest against inappropriate treatment and excesses by Israel against people of Palestine, Shaikh Sayyam said if Muslim rulers unite and raise voice on the issue, Israel might surrender. The Palestinian scholar was responding to questions by mediamen during his visit to the Binoria Universitry International (Site) on Thursday where he exchanged views with scholars and students about education and examination system.

In reply to a question, Shaikh Sayyam said it was difficult to comprehend agony and anguish of Palestinian Muslims with which they were passing through where even Friday sermons were controlled and Imams of mosques were asked to pursue official line in the sermons. Those found violating the instructions are taken to task, he said. He said as he lives in Gaza, he used to disappear from his house two days before Friday to avoid raids by agencies, and he used to appear in the Aqsa Mosques on Friday to deliver Friday sermons.

He termed Yasir Arafat’s death a tragedy, and that the vacuum created by his death could not be filled.

Referring to Hammas, he said that Hammas was voice of Muslims in Palestine.

Responding to another question, he said that liberation of Palestine depended on God’s will only.

To another question, he said that he had visited many Muslim countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Pakistan, where he had paid visit to small and big Madressah as he was researching on Madaris.

Later, speaking to the students, Shaikh Sayyam said they were perturbed over new agreement on nuclear cooperation between India and the US.

“We have expressed our concern on the agreement”, he expressed surprise over labelling Muslims as terrorists.

He advised the students to pay attention to their education.

Earlier, chief of Binoria University International Mufti Naeem exchanged views with Palestinian scholar about international conspiracy against Islam, Madaris and foreign students studying in Pakistan. Later, he took the scholar to various departments and explained the working of the university.
