US panel begins N-deal debate


WASHINGTON, March 29: As the US Congress began a crucial, closed briefing on the Indo-US nuclear deal on Wednesday, India’s Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran took charge of his country’s efforts to win over congressional endorsement for the pact.

Mr Saran launched his diplomatic offensive with a meeting with US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns who was Washington’s chief negotiator for the nuclear accord.—Correspondent
