LARKANA, March 29: A data centre has started functioning in the district accounts office under a plan to switch over to an integrated and automated accounting system. Sources in the finance department told Dawn here on Wednesday that Sindh accountant-general Zulfiqar Ali Qadri inaugurated the centre last week with the collection of 50 per cent data from executive departments.
The project has been launched to ensure quick verification of salaries, GP funds, pensions and other cases.
Initially, Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur offices had been computerized. Work to computerize Ghotki, Dadu and Naushahro Feroze offices is under way.
A district-wise pension directory with separate entries of departments is being prepared to keep a proper record and remove hindrances in pension payments.
Protest: People took to the streets in Nasirabad here on Wednesday to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the town.
The protest was held under the Nasirabad Citizens’ Alliance which represents 42 political, religious and social organizations.
The protesters, led by alliance president Rasool Bakhsh Khoso and Deedar Daipar, after marching through main roads of the town assembled at the G. M. Syed chowk. They said police had failed to maintain law and order in the town.
