OKARA, March 29: Pakistan Tehrik Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that ‘real’ political parties have no confidence in Gen Pervaiz Musharraf and the president had widened the gap between army and the people of Pakistan.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a PTI office at Renala Khurd where party’s district president Dr Shamim-ul-Haq was also present.
Mr Khan criticised the government for what he called atrocities against the people of Balochistan and Wazirastan without any fault of theirs.
He said the parliament was without authority as Gen Musharraf had not consulted it on important national issues.
He asserted that for ‘real democracy’, independent judiciary and election commission were a must.
He claimed the opposition had decided to resign from the parliament as it was functioning without any powers.
He said the people were being crushed by price hike, alleging that those responsible for the recent cement and sugar crisis were part of the government.
DRUG ADDICTION: The ANF has considerably controlled drug abuse in the society with the cooperation of NGOs working against the menace.
A plan for the treatment of drug addicts would be executed across the Punjab, under which 25-30 bed wards would be set up at each DHQ hospital, while 10-15 bed wards would be provided at every tehsil headquarters hospital for cost-free rehabilitation of addicts.
Punjab Anti-Narcotics Force Director General Brigadier Idress Babar said this while chairing a meeting arranged by district social welfare department.
The meeting was attended by District Nazim Syed Asad Gillani, DCO Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam Kamboh, DPO Tahir Mehmood Malik and NGOs’ representatives Ms Saima Rashid from Mada, Dr Shamim-ul-Haq and Akram Moazzam from Idara-i-Shaoor and a number of social workers.
The DG said with the cooperation of NGOs working against drug abuse, the ANF had created awareness about drugs and their adverse effects on the users and the society.
He said the force had also helped curtail the sale of drugs in the province by launching successful drives against peddlers.
He also directed drug inspectors to strictly monitor the stock and sale of medicines at shops.
