GUJRANWALA, March 27: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain Minhas on Monday decided a civil suit of Naushera Virkan after 37 years of numerous hearings by various courts.
Reports said a civil suit of 37-marla domestic/commercial land had been going on between Muhammad Rashid and Abdul Hakim, refugees from India, for the last 37 years. In 2003, the Lahore High Court remanded it to the lower court after 11-year hearing with the direction to decide the case within six months. However, the sessions court announced the decision after three years and 14 days despite the LHC’s order.
On Monday, the judge ordered to give one kanal and a marla land to Muhammad Rashid and 16 marlas to Abdul Hakim.
Defence counsel Malik Shaukat Ali Awan said he would file an appeal with the LHC against the decision after consulting his client Abdul Hakim.
Complainant Abdul Hakim’s father Barkat Ali, two sisters Bashiran Bibi, Fatima Bibi, brothers Niaz Ahmad and Saleem died during the years long proceedings.
KHARIAN CASE: The Punjab Home Department on Monday allowed the local anti-terrorism court No 2 to conduct trial of the two dozen accused involved in Kharian sessions court case on jail premises.
Reports said about two dozen assailants had killed four people and injured nine others in an ambush outside the sessions court over murder enmity on June 9 last year in Kharian. They were later arrested from Lahore and detained at camp jail.
Anti-terrorism court no 2 judge Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad had sought permission from the home department for their trial in jail due to security measures and asked for shifting them to Gujranwala from Lahore.
The court will start hearing on jail premises from March 29 (tomorrow).
GOVT CRITICISED: Markazi Jamiat Ahal-Hadith (MJAH) chief Senator Prof Sajid Mir has accused the government of destroying the real democracy and the Constitution.
Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, he said the government was working on the US agenda to appease the Bush administration.
He said people were disturbed over the rising lawlessness, insecurity, price hike and unemployment and the present system would collapse soon.
