Murder accused still at large

By Our Correspondent

VEHARI, March 27: Danywal police have failed to arrest two murder accused even three years after the incident. Victim’s family members, Majeed, Tariq and Qaiser of Sheikh Cotton Colony, alleged that accused Sohail and Jameel had killed their uncle Saleem Raza of Danywal town after abduction in February 2003.

They claimed that the accused had already been declared guilty in the investigation, but the police were not arresting the accused as they had taken bribe from the accused party.

The accused, they said, were threatening the victim’s family with dire consequences after it rejected their Rs0.9 million offer for reconciliation. They said that SHO Rana Akhter had already been terminated for allegedly taking bribe and showing negligence.

They said the accused party had also approached the area’s influential people for piling pressure on victim’s family for reconciliation. They called upon highups, including the Punjab IGP and the DPO, to look into the matter and help recover the body of deceased Saleem Raza and arrest the accused.

A Danyal police official informed this correspondent that the case was under investigation by DSP (investigation) Mehr Rab Nawaz.

The Burewala ASP had already declared the two accused guilty in his investigation while the fresh investigation was being conducted on the desire of the accused party.

DAMAGED: Some 0.7 million wheat bags worth Rs280 million are being damaged in the district due to the negligence and ill-planning of food department officials.

It is learnt that the department had purchased these wheat bags last year from procurement centres at Chak 65/WB, Adda Kachi Pakki, Ratta Tibba, Luddan, Pipli Adda, Pakhi Morr, Machiwal, and other areas and stocked them under open sky.

According to rules, the wheat stocked in the open should be shifted to godowns within six months. Consequently, the upper and the lowest layers of the stock have damaged and the bardana has been wasted.

Food controller Hafeez Khan said that the wheat stock would hopefully be sold during the next few days. However, he could not give any reason for delay in shifting of the stock to godowns.
