4 accused in Attock bank robbery case sent to jail

By Our Correspondent

ATTOCK, March 27: All of four accused in the bank robbery case have been sent to Attock district jail on the orders of the judicial magistrate, sources told Dawn on Monday. The accused — Kazim, Muhammad Suhail, Rizwanullah and Rehmat Gul — were produced by Rangu police before the local court of the judicial magistrate on Sunday amid tight security after completion of their 10-day physical remand, the sources said.

When contact, SP Investigation, Attock, Syed Zahid Hussain Shirazi confirmed the report and said the stolen money and weapons used in the robbery had also been recovered.

During investigation, it was disclosed that the gang’s ring leader, Waqar Ali Shah, a resident of Swabi district, had links with a militant organization in Miranshah, Waziristan, but he died in the hospital before being interrogated.

However, facts and figures obtained during investigation were being compiled and the detail would soon be disclosed before the media, he said.

Efforts are also being made to arrest the sixth accused named Marjan, a resident of Mardan, who managed to escape, he added.

Six accused committed robbery at a bank on March 11 and fled but the Rangu police with the help of local people arrested five of them after an encounter at Waisa village.
