KARACHI: Woman faints

KARACHI, March 27: A woman fainted on Monday afternoon at a seminar at KMC Sports Complex, the venue of the grand event of World Social Forum 2006, owing to hot and dry weather.

The seminar on ‘developing disaster mitigating strategy’ was being held at the venue when Fatima Naqvi, a speaker, representing a UK-based NGO Oxfam-GB, fainted due to hot and humid weather. Later, she was given first-aid at a private hospital.

The officials in the Met office said that a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius was recorded on Monday while the minimum temperature was 20 degrees Celsius, with 26 per cent humidity in the air.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was 33 degrees Celsius, with 23 per cent humidity. A hot and humid weather has been forecast for Tuesday by the Met office.
