US soldier dies in clash with Taliban


KANDAHAR, March 25: US and Afghan troops backed up by American aircraft fought suspected Taliban in Helmand on Saturday, leaving one US soldier and an unknown number of militants dead, officials said.

Another US service man and an Afghan soldier were wounded in the fighting in Sangin district, a United States military statement said. US warplanes dropped 11 guided bombs on about 20 militants taking part in the clash, it said.—AP/AFP
