LAHORE, March 25: Punjab PML information secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha has rejected former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assertion that the government has appointed its ‘favourite’ former judge as the chief election commissioner.

In a press statement here on Saturday, Agha claimed the opposition had been asked to propose its nominee for the EC office, but it did not.

He alleged that the opposition had started raising objections against the appointment of the new CEC because it knew that it would be defeated in the general election.

Senator Agha said foreign militants in Pakistan were bringing a bad name to the country. They (militants) had been earlier offered an amnesty by the government provided they surrendered, but since they were attacking the law enforcement personnel, the government was taking action against them.

The PML leader claimed that political dialogue was going on in Balochistan and there was no deadlock there.

However, he said, those using arms against law enforcers were being paid back in the same coins, which was important to uphold the government’s writ.

He was critical of the statements being made by Ms Bhutto, and alleged that she was leading a luxurious life abroad and was using the PPP workers as a shield.
