ATTOCK, March 25: The railway authorities have enhanced security along the rail track in the jurisdiction of the district, sources said. The 70-kilometre section is very sensitive as the Attock bridge over Indus river links Punjab with the NWFP.

Owing to the prevailing situation, the Railways has prepared a security plan to prevent any terrorist act. The whole track will be divided into several sections, each stretching 10km, and a number of police teams will be deployed there, the sources said.

The railways pilot engines will be made available at sensitive places while railcarts will be provided to various officials who would carry out random inspection of the track, the sources said.

Metal detectors have already been provided to the police to inspect trains and platforms.

CASE REGISTERED: Saddar police on Saturday registered a case against unknown outlaws on the charge of uprooting fishplates from the rail track between Attock city and Sanjwal railway stations.

The case was registered on the report of Inspector Works, Railway, Mr Shehzad. Investigations are underway, but no arrests have so far been made.

Two fishplates were removed from the rail track on Friday evening by some outlaws just before the Peshawar-bound 13-UP Awam express train was scheduled to pass. However, the railway patrolling staff detected the fault and informed the authorities concerned.

Bank robbery accused: Four accused in the bank robbery case will be produced before the court of judicial magistrate on Sunday after completion of their 10-day physical remand.

The Rangu police station SHO, Inspector Abid Khan, told this reporter on Saturday that the police had obtained physical remand of the accused from Judicial Magistrate Raja Jehanzaib Khan to complete investigation.

Six accused committed robbery at a bank on March 11 and fled but the Rangu police with the help of local people arrested five of them after an encounter at Waisa village.

The accused, identified as Kazim, Waqar Ali Shah, Mohammad Sohail, Rizwanullah and Rehmat Gul, are reported to be students of a seminary in Akora Khattak, NWFP.
