KARACHI: Class IX exams from June 20

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 25: Anticipating that necessary notifications pertaining to SSC part-I annual exams would be issued shortly by the authorities, Committee of Chairmen (COC) of educational boards in Sindh has fixed June 20 for conduct of examinations of fresh students of Class IX.

A meeting of COC was held on Saturday, with chairman of Mirpurkhas education board, Anwar Ahmed Zai, in the chair. The chairmen of all other educational boards of the province attended the meeting, which considered largely the schedule of class IX annual exams under the old system.

Mr Zai, who at present is also the chairman of the COC, said that the examinations of class X students and others who failed to clear class IX papers previously would be held from April 18, as per schedule already given by the educational board.

He said that a tentative schedule for class IX students was also discussed and if Sindh education department issued the required notification in due course of time, boards would be able to hold SSC-I exam from June 20.

The Sindh education department, in line with a decision of the federal government, without taking into confidence the chief minister and governor had issued a notification that there would be no examination of class IX in 2006, while a composite examination, after a two-year study, would be held in the case of class IX and X students from 2007 and onwards. However, the composite exam proposal was rejected by the Sindh Cabinet last Wednesday.
