Strict action for wrong water data

Published March 25, 2006

LAHORE, March 24: Punjab Irrigation Minister Amer Sultan Cheema on Friday directed regular sitting of departmental accounts committee and warned the employees against providing any wrong data.

Presiding over a meeting, he said those found guilty of providing fictitious data would find their promotions stopped. Some officers showed availability of water at dried-up tail-ends, he said.

He said he himself and the secretary would pay surprise visits to all canals and watercourses, reiterating that any one found providing wrong data would be dealt with sternly.

The officers were supposed to provide water to tail-enders and no relaxation would be shown in this regard. The department would provide funds for rehabilitation of tail-ends.

The minister asked the chief engineers to convene a meeting of superintendents and executive engineers every month and decide cases so that burden on the Public Accounts Committee could be lessened.
