Two human smugglers arrested

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, March 24: Two human smugglers who sent a youth of Naushera Virkan to Greece were arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) passport cell on Friday.

The family of Rafaqat told the FIA that accused Amjad Farooq and Rahamdad had promised to send him to Greece and demanded Rs400,000. The family paid Rs100,000 in advance and the accused sent him to Iran.

Rafaqat was handed over to two accomplices of the accused, Mazhar and Tahir, who took him to Istanbul, Turkey. They stayed at a hotel and the accused phoned Rafaqat’s family and asked them to pay the money to their accomplices.

The family said they paid Rs100,000 to the human smugglers but could not inform their men in Turkey. Mazhar and Tahir got infuriated when they received no news from Pakistan, tortured Rafaqat and threw him from a 200-foot-high building as a result of which his legs and spinal cord were fractured.

Meanwhile, the victim was deported by the Turkish government following providing treatment in a state-run hospital.
