LANDI KOTAL, March 23: There is a dire need to set up a dry port at Landi Kotal to boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan, customs clearing agents say. Representatives of the Torkham Customs Clearing Agents Association were talking to a delegation of the Tribal Areas’ Chamber of Commerce and Industries in here on Wednesday.

The association’s president, Nasir Khan, emphasized that a dry port at Landi Kotal railway station would greatly enhance the trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as between the Central Asian states.

He said that the dry port would generate employment opportunities and would spur tourism in the area. The rail service till Landi Kotal railway station will also increase the revenue of Pakistan Railways.

President of the Tribal Areas’ Chamber of Commerce and Industries Akbar Khan promised that he would take up the matter with the authorities.
