Pesticides produced by 32 companies banned

HYDERABAD, March 22: The Director-General of Agriculture Extension, Sindh, has banned marketing of pesticides made by 32 companies whose registration had expired, and directed inspectors to seize their products and register FIRs against dealers found involved in selling them.

Speaking at a meeting at his office here on Tuesday, DG Naeem Ahmed Korejo directed district officers of the Directorate of Plant Protection that 32 companies, despite receiving several notices from time to time, were still marketing their products without getting their registration renewed.

He said the department would not allow sale of substandard, adulterated and fake pesticides at any cost and would take action against the companies and their dealers.

He warned pesticide inspectors and concerned staff not to show any leniency towards defaulting companies and their dealers.

The meeting informed the DG that about 1000 samples of pesticides and 683 of fertilizers were seized for chemical analysis during last year, out of which 71 pesticides and 33 fertilizers samples were found substandard and FIRs were lodged with police.

COMMITTEES: Two committees, formed by the adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Food and Agriculture, met at the committee room of the Directorate of General Agriculture Extension, Sindh, here on Tuesday.

The meeting of the first committee on arranging cotton demonstration plots at farmers’ fields was presided over by its chairman Syed Nadeem Shah.

It recommended five verities to be sown on demonstration plots and decided to send them to the adviser to get his final approval. The Agriculture Department will sow cotton on plots of 50 acres each in the cotton growing districts and provide technical expertise and inputs in this regard.

The other committee tasked with preparation of awareness messages for growers during the kharif season was chaired by its chairman Syed Sharfuddin Shah.

It finalised various messages right from land preparation to picking for the growers of Southern Sindh. The meeting for Central and Upper Sindh would be held on April 3.

The messages will be telecast on local TV channels, broadcast on radio and published in newspapers.

MUET: The department of electronics, telecommunication engineering of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology applauded the Warid Telecom for conducting recruitment test for fresh graduates.

Engineers from the Warid Telecom appreciated efforts of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology for providing a platform which will play major role in enhancing university-industry interaction.

Vice-Chancellor Dr A.Q.K. Rajput praised the efforts of BSS/RF design group of the Warid Telecom for discerning talent in fresh graduates.

He said that the telecom laboratories of the university were recognized at the world level and the university was putting every effort in imparting quality education in this fast growing field of telecommunication.
