HYDERABAD, March 22: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the management of the Baitul Maal to start disbursing the unspent fund of Rs5.856 million among 4,880 deserving people from March 31. He was presiding over a meeting of the District Baitul Maal Committee at his office here on Tuesday.

He asked officers concerned and councillors to inform beneficiaries of their areas to get their instalments of Rs1,200 each within 90 days, starting March 31.

To ensure transparent distribution of the amount, the nazim constituted a supervisory committee, comprising members of national and provincial assemblies, officials, representatives of NGOs and people, to pay surprise visits to branches of the Pakistan Post Office and the Baitul Maal. Besides, he said, monitoring committees, comprising nazims/councillors, representatives of NGOs and opinion leaders, would also be constituted at the union council level to monitor the process at the gross-roots level.

The nazim directed the Baitul Maal management to finalize the list of regular beneficiaries according to available funds by April 2006 so that disbursement of the 11th regular instalment of Rs1,200 each could be started.

DCO Mohammad Sharif Awan said names for constituting committees would be recommended within a week. He said the district government would do its best to distribute the amount in a transparent way and, as such, the system was being computerized to avoid overlapping or irregularity.

MUSHAIRA: Arrangements to hold an Aalami Mushaira on March 30 were finalized at a meeting presided over by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Tuesday.

It was decided that the Mushaira would be held at the old deputy commissioner house, instead of the Dialdas Club as announced earlier.

The nazim directed the management concerned for short listing local poets and said the list of participating poets should be kept within limits to provide them proper accommodation.

He directed police officers to ensure security and better traffic arrangements on the occasion.
